The EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (AFIR) will be one of the most important interventions to ensure that the energy transition is a well-managed for the road transport sector. FCE is committed to support its effective delivery. The key points from the FCE response to the European Commission’s consultation are:
A “technology-open” approach is needed, encompassing the full scope of technologies that can help abate GHG emissions in the road transport sector
There must be sufficient provision of alternative fuels infrastructure both in urban and rural areas to avoid “infrastructure deserts”
Infrastructure for liquefied fossil-free fuels and biogas should remain in place and new recharging points should be equipped with the latest technology
The revision of AFIR must be aligned with other parallel proposals such as the ETS revision and the Energy Taxation Directive
