FCE calls for a technology-open approach to alternative fuels infrastructure
Tags:

The EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (AFIR) will be one of the most important interventions to ensure that the energy transition is a well-managed for the road transport sector. FCE is committed to support its effective delivery. The key points from the FCE response to the European Commission’s consultation are:

  • A “technology-open” approach is needed, encompassing the full scope of technologies that can help abate GHG emissions in the road transport sector
  • There must be sufficient provision of alternative fuels infrastructure both in urban and rural areas to avoid “infrastructure deserts”
  • Infrastructure for liquefied fossil-free fuels and biogas should remain in place and new recharging points should be equipped with the latest technology
  • The revision of AFIR must be aligned with other parallel proposals such as the ETS revision and the Energy Taxation Directive
